Spotlight On: DJ Marvel

BJ002439

This post has been a loooooooooooooong time coming, but it would be wrong if I completely forgot about it. DJ Marvel is the alias of David Forscey, a UVa kid and good friend of Claire’s. I first heard his stylings at Claire’s senior prom, where he debuted his aptly-named trance-club gem “Promtasticated” (which you can stream here). I’m not sure what I enjoy more; Marvel’s electronic instrumental dance tracks or his cleverly crafted hip-hop remixes, including the absolutely flawless “The Shat”, in which Marvel reworks “House of the Rising Sun” to perfectly fit “The Shit” by The DOC, MC Ren, Ice Cube, and Xzibit. Another prime example of his serious production talent is “Warrior Guitar”, which uses Nas’s unmatched verses and a surprisingly fresh Marvel original. With some connections, we could be seeing DJ Marvel’s name in the credits of some top-notch hip-hop albums real soon. Check out “The Shat” and “Warrior Guitar” below, and marvel (ha!) at DJ Marvel’s legit talent. Pick up a copy of his mixtape, DC United: Coast 2 Coast All-Stars over at datpiff.
