King Charles is a unique musician. Armed with the adorableness of Noah & the Whale, the playfulness of Mystery Jets, and the raspiness of Mumford & Sons, the regally titled London singer/outfit have been the talk of many tastemakers ever since they started their tour with the aforementioned M&S. I’m not completely familiar with his repertoire, but goddamn if I don’t absolutely love what I’ve heard so far, in particular the catchy-as-all-hell “Love Lust.” The quickened pace, seemingly effortless harmonies, and bouncy piano line come together like Voltron to form a doozy of a folk-pop single. It’s a bit early to crown the band, but if “Love Lust” is a harbinger of things to come, the title may not be too far off.

I neeevvverrrrr speak in hyperbole.

We’re working on getting all of our remodeling done this week, so we apologize for the slowing in posting and for any technical issues coming up in the next few days. Just because we’re coming up with a pretty new site for you all, it doesn’t mean we aren’t still listening to heady jams. Check out another flawless Aeroplane remix, this time of new Melbourne-based Gypsy & the Cat‘s “The Piper’s Song.” Go ahead, try to get that chorus out of your head. I dare you.

Here’s a dark little collaboration of Bedouin Soundclash and our favorite French-Canadian songstress Coeur de Pirate, entitled “Brutal Hearts.” The song has a very Lykke Li or The xx feel to it, which is just perfect for a rainy morning here in the Nation’s Capital. It also features Beatrice Martin singing in English, which helps me understand what’s going on in the song (unlike other Coeur de Pirate tracks)

I know that it is diametrically opposed to the typical ATG theme, but I can’t help but love the country classic “Wagon Wheel” by Old Crow Medicine Show. Call me a douchey UVa kid or what have you, but when I was first introduced to the song by my study abroad friends Chris, Katie, and Emma in Florence, I couldn’t help but love it. Something about the harmonies teamed with the banjo did it for me. Given the circumstances, “Wagon Wheel” now brings me back to a nostalgic part of my life, and I feel as though the song was created to strike that same nostalgic chord with most listeners. But I digress…
Imagine my excitement when I discover that ATG favorite Mumford & Sons had recorded a cover of “Wagon Wheel” on BBC’s Radio 2 Sessions. Imagine my anger when I realize that it was released back in late March. BUT…Imagine my happiness when I finally listen.

Not much time to post today, but I wanted to share this beautiful Pacific! remix of the poppy, whimsical (and inappropriately titled) “Sad Song” by Au Revoir Simone. There’s another fantastic RAC remix of this song as well (here) but since I posted RAC yesterday, I thought I’d give it a slight break. Anyway, use this to brighten your day a bit.

Apologies for not being so diligent with posting last week, but most of our efforts were dedicated to Virgin Freefest and getting prepared for our first ALL THINGS GO SPONSORED SHOW!!!! (BUY TIX NOW!!1121212!)
Just because we’re busy doesn’t mean we don’t have time to deliver the hot jams. Well, it is a bit unfair to take credit for said hotness. That adoration should be dedicated to RAC, who come through again with a flawless remix of Penguin Prison’s “The Worse it Gets,” which is somehow dancier than the original. Somehow.

Guest writer Chris Rowe posted Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros’ anthemic doozy “Home” almost a year ago, and I followed up a few months back with the beautifully simplistic RAC remix (which also appeared on the Goodbye Summer Mixtape). At this point, you’d expect we’d move on to either another track off of the band’s wonderful album Up From Below, or maybe move on to another band.
You expected wrong, idiot. Nope. Instead, I give you the Party Supplies remix of “Home,” packaged perfectly for DJs looking to mix a little folkiness into their setlists. Complete with the whistles and everything, the Party Supplies remix pretty much nails it.

Here’s what I know about Florrie:
1) She’s a drummer, singer, and songwriter
2) She’s from Bristol, UK
3) She often relies on ATG favorite Fred Falke for her production
4) She’s unsigned
5) SHE’S SMOKIN’ HOT.
Number’s 3 and 5 are technically the most important to me, to be honest. Number 3 is crucial because it means her music is fucking amazing, as evidenced by the below track “Give Me Your Love,” remixed by Falke. Number 5 is crucial because I’m single. Florrie, hit me up.
Seriously. Please.

Matt & Kim are at it again folks, and we’re all in for a treat. The Brooklyn duo are pretty universally well-loved for their uniquely catchy anthemic pop music, from “Daylight” to “Yeah Yeah” to, well, just about anything they’ve ever made. Their newest single, “Cameras,” fits right in with the rest. Quirky, danceable, and, as always, immensely fun, the new song is just what we’ve come to expect from the band without sounding like they aren’t trying. They’re trying, and it sounds pretty damn awesome.

Over the weekend, I spent a lot of time in my car. During these drives, I figured I would pick and album and really work to get into it. The album of choice last weekend happened to be Yeasayer’s Odd Blood. I had listened a few times (and had listened to “Ambling Alp” like, a million times) but for some reason never fully committed my attention to it. What a monumental mistake that was.
Odd Blood is hands down the best album of 2010 for so many reasons. First off, the album is the most simultaneously original and sonically pleasing piece of work I’ve heard in years. It’s abundantly clear that Yeasayer spends ample time perfecting each layer of their tracks, from the unique drum patterns to the creative vocal melodies. Now, it’s not like I didn’t already love the band (2007’s All Hour Cymbals is an ATG favorite) but they thoroughly outdid themselves, and the rest of the music scene, with songs like “Madder Red,” “I Remember,” “O.N.E.” and the incomparable “Ambling Alp.” Check out the video for “Madder Red,” a heartbreaking tale about Kristen Bell and her somehow incredibly lovable amorphous one-eyed blob of flesh with a weird arm thing. The song and video pairing is top notch, and expect to find the song, and Odd Blood, to appear at the top of my year end lists.
