YOU’RE PACKING TONS OF GUNS

DJ Bahler is a mash-up DJ from Los Angeles who recently released a mixtape called Mashin’ Pit, which features our favorite band’s repertoire spliced with some of the more recognizable jams in recent memory. While it is entirely possible (and, in my opinion, likely) that DJ Bahler came up with the name of the mix and then put music to it, the results are nonetheless intriguing. Highlights include “Mum Mum Mum Moth,” which deftly balances Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor” with “Moth’s Wings,” tied together with the vocals from Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face.” Also worth listening to is “Potholes on Easy Street” which samples, among other things, Kanye’s “Touch the Sky,” Yelle’s “Ce Jeu,” and, of course, Passion Pit’s “Tons of Guns.” Grab the whole mixtape here, and the aforementioned favorites below. You may not love them, but honestly, I can’t get enough of anything that even remotely involves Passion Pit.

Lemons in Their Face Watch ‘Em Freeze Up

There is no cooler rap song in the past year than Gucci Mane’s “Lemonade.” From the boasts about his “yellow living room set” to the minimalist piano hook courtesy of Bangladesh, the song just bleeds swagger. I mean, fuck, I feel comfortable blasting it in my gray Honda Accord, which is saying something. Now you may think I’m just gonna drop “Lemonade” on y’all below and get on with it.

FALSE. Instead, I bring Gucci up because his song is sampled pretty fantastically on the new Major Lazer/La Roux collabo mixtape, Major Lazer & La Roux Presents LazerProof. The song, a quasi-mashup of La Roux’s “I’m Not Your Toy” and a watered-down hook from “Lemonade,” is exactly what you’d expect: Gucci Mane Major Lazer-fied. So go pour yourself a codeine-infused lemonade and pop on this jam.

Matt & Kim, Diplo, Major Lazer @ Rock’n’Roll Hotel

Guest blogger and former college roommate Josh Walker attended the Matt & Kim, Diplo, and Major Lazer show at Rock’n’Roll Hotel last Saturday. He was kind enough to give us some insight into what exactly went down:

Diplo and Major Lazer put on an epic set at the Rock and Roll Hotel in D.C. on Saturday. 500 or so party goers cramed into the intimate venue to hear all three artists spin sets well into the night. While I regrettably missed the Matt & Kim set, I arrived just in time to see Diplo and Major Lazer take the stage together. The two spun mind-numbing and irresistably danceable beats while scantily-clad dancers put on a show fit for a strip club. The night redefined what constitutes a true dance party. Well done Bacardi for putting this show together.
