As the Story Goes On, It’s the Rule That We Remember Our Lines

I’ve written plenty on Good Old War, so naturally I’m freaking out over the release of their new self-titled album.  For those of you not familiar with the trio, let me sum them up for you: harmonies, harmonies, HARMONIES.  Keith Goodwin, Dan Schwartz, and Tim Arnold channel Simon & Garfunkel in a way that nearly rivals the folk icons themselves.  The guys’ latest effort sees them perfecting the organic folk pop they know while branching out into new bluesy territories (as we began to see on their split EP with ATG-favorite Cast Spells).  One thing that’s absent from this record is a successor to “Coney Island,” the first and obvious single off their debut album, Only Way to Be Alone.  But perhaps that’s the price for finding your place.  Good Old War really sound like they’re on top of their game, and it works out for the better.
