I raved about Phoenix’s new album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, a few weeks back for multiple reasons: Firstly, the album is flawless. Secondly, the album title and artwork is flawless. Thirdly, not only is “1901” flawless, but “Lisztomania”, the band’s second single and first video, is…well…flawless. The song immediately caught my ear at first listen, and has been playing at every DJ set I’ve done for the past month. The song is just pure pop goodness, and demands the attention of tastemakers worldwide. “Lisztomania”, among other highlights, has established Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix as one my three favorite albums of 2009 (whatup Dark Was the Night and Technicolor Health). Check the video, filmed in Germany as an ode to famous German conductor Franz Liszt, as well as the song below, and make sure to pick up a copy of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix for yourself on May 25th.
Bonus: Check the video of the Parisian quartet performing “Lisztomania” on SNL last week. Needless to say, they killed it.
