The Return of Nick Miller’s Song of the Week: Don’t Dance (Two Left Feet)

nick-miller-song-of-week.jpg

NICK MILLER IS BACK. Those of you who aren’t familiar with the legend that is Nick Miller, check back to other songs of the week, including Nick’s awe-inspiring covers of Andrew Bird’s “Masterfade” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella”, as well as originals such as “Chemicals and Cowboy Boots”. Nick recently transferred from the University of Wisconsin and is now at Columbia College in Chicago, but that in no way means his musical talents have faded; in fact quite the opposite. All this time away from me has made him lonely, and reflective, allowing him to craft new, more thoughtful, more sexy music. This separation and burning desire for me has culminated into a Nick Miller original, “Don’t Dance (Two Left Feet)”. While this song has absolutely nothing to do with anything I just said, it is still undeniably the jam of the century. Nick produced the whole track himself, which I recommend to anyone with a soul. Check the line “too much time, and two left feet”. Genius. It is my pleasure to welcome Nick Miller back to All Things Go, and, since it’s been a while, I thought I’d do a little exclusive interview with him. Check his new song here, and the interview (as well as alternate song links) after the jump.

Love,
Zack

ZACK: So Nick, it’s been a while since i’ve seen your beautiful face. What’s new?

NICK: I’ve taken up shuffleboard, it really helps me kick back after all the stress of touring…I dunno I go to school, make music, frequent 7-Eleven.

ZACK: Sounds like fun. So is the 7-Eleven where you really got the inspiration for “Don’t Dance”?

NICK: yyyyyeah the clerks yelled at me for getting my groove on. J/K they love me! 32 oz big gulps almost every day! I think this was the first time I sat and down and thought “you know i’ve never really TRIED to explicitly write a dance song” and I really despise dance songs about dancing usually, which for some reason led to me doing exactly that.

ZACK: How ironicly counter-intuitive. How much time would you say you spend on the average song?

NICK: It varies like crazy from song to song. usually I’ve had an idea for months and then all of a sudden it’s like “oh man! now I know what to do with that” and then hours of recording and re-recording, and mixing. But honestly “don’t dance” from conception to recording to mixing was about 8 hours work…about the fastest I’ve ever done anything.

ZACK: So whatre you listening to these days?

NICK: I’ve fallen in love with St. Vincent (Annie Clark).

ZACK: Good choice. Now lets get down to brass tacks. if you had $1000 right now, what would you spend it on?

NICK: If I had a thousand bucks I’d probably buy a better microphone…thats boring…a plane ticket to the UK? For some reason thats my dream vacation.

ZACK: Is it the music scene or just the environment?

NICK: Well, I wanna try out my accent chops for one. Otherwise, yeah I wanna see what they’re listening to. Outside of ATG they’re the only ones I’ve gotten any blogging press from, lovely blokes they are they are.

ZACK: Well wicked. Ok word association time!

NICK: Poop. Sorry I’ll wait. Boobs.

ZACK: Right. Arcade Fire…

NICK: Tunnels.

ZACK: Gilbert Arenas…

NICK: So tight?

ZACK: Correct answer. Chicago, IL…

NICK: Cooler than Milwaukee.

ZACK: Wilco…

NICK: No faaaaair. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is probably the only album in my top 5 thats not Radiohead…and maybe #1?

ZACK: In Rainbows…

NICK: Discbox!!! it’s coming in the mail in the next week or so.

ZACK: Finally… SEX…

NICK: That’s weird…all I can think is Zack Friendly.

ZACK: Perfect. I think we’re done here.

Check back later for more Nick Miller’s Song of the Weeks!
