Streetlab Remixes Everything

Streetlab consider themselves “two music freaks from NYC”, which seems to be a fairly accurate statement. After stumbling upon their site, I discovered a multitude of remixes from the two, featuring bands such as the Stones, INXS, Crystal Castles, and Nine Inch Nails. Remixing a song like The Chemical Brother’s “Galvanize” might prove to be easy, seeing as how the song sets itself out nicely to be tweaked and bent, but Streetlab somehow brings out the complexity of the song, adding new and even more creative instrumentation. “Galvanize” was my first listen, yet not my favorite. I cannot get enough of two of the remixes; the first being “Airwar”, originally created by Toronto-based 8-bit masters Crystal Castles. As good as the “Airwar” remix is, it thoroughly pales in comparison to the remix of an absolute classic and one of my favorite songs of all time, “Gimme Shelter” by the Stones. While the song is fairly timeless, Streetlab updates the sound a bit, adding a basslinesimilar to that of “Feel Good Inc.”, yet much more electronic. Check out the Crystal Castles and Stones remixes below.

Be sure to check out their other remixes, as well as a few originals, at their official site and their myspace.
