Mixtape Mondays with Tim – Da Drought 3

Upon request, I have decided to review Da Drought 3 Mixtape by Lil’ Wayne. The Cash Money rapper from New Orleans has done it again with another hot release that rivals his other solid efforts; The Greatest Rapper Alive and Dedication mixtapes. Da Drought 3 is definitely in my top five mixtapes ever and it was very hard to pick just three songs to write about, so shout out to my boy Jonah, the biggest Lil’ Weezy fan I know, for helping me pick out these three songs:

On “Upgrade U”, Lil’ Wayne justifies a hot beat originally used as a Beyonce and Jay-Z duet with his sick flow. Honestly I prefer Lil’ Weezy over Beyonce artist-wise, but for as for who is the better arm candy, that’s a whole different story. Lyrically, this is one of the hottest tracks on the mixtape.

The no-doubt summer hit, “We Takin’ Over” by DJ Khaled and others, has the electricity to get anyone going, and Weezy Baby doesn’t disappoint by coming at us with even bigger energy in his rendition, “My Daddy”. He even brings up the controversial picture of him and Baby kissing, pimp-slapping all the haters along the way.

Swizz Beats is an unreal producer. He is not an unreal rapper. Combine Lil’ Wayne’s insane lyrical flow with this hot beat and you have “Swizzy (Remix)”, a song that dwarfs the original.
